Happy Hopefully future owner here!

Good morning all!

A new member from NE Illinois here. Was a mechanic for years and now I'm moving into a different industry, but still work on cars here and there in my free time.

Through some circumstances, I sold an aging Honda Civic while it still had some value to pay some bills. With what's left, I'm on the hunt for a decent SL2 with an automatic transmission (so some of my family members can use if they need to)

I found one selling for $1300 with 119000 on the clock, going to check out early tomorrow. It sounds like it is in good shape, but I will see when I arrive.

Either way I'm fairly certain I will be driving one of these cars in the near future. I know a quite a few people who have them and have had good results with them. For a basic back and forth to work vehicle, I believe it will serve nicely.

George

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I would say that many of these S cars are completely on par with a Honda Civic, if not more reliable (not to mention - easy to work on) then one.

Glad to have you here! Welcome to Saturnfans. Hope you enjoy your stay and learn a lot from these forums.

Thank you for the welcome! I worked on plenty of both, and if I could choose I would say the Saturns.

The one I looked at over the weekend ended up being a "too good to be true" deal and had way more wrong with it than I wanted to get involved with. For it to be worth it to me I'd have to have offered half of what the asking price was, which was already low.

So my search continues! I did learn I prefer the styling of the 2000-2002, so it was not a completely wasted trip.

Today I was fortunate to officially join the club! After lots of research, phone calls and looking at some horribly neglected SL2s, I found a 1999 for a reasonable price that looks like it will serve me well. I live in NE Illinois, and it came from Arizona. So aside from a few little quirks I will have to tinker with, this one was clearly cared for and is very clean underneath.

FWIW, the gentleman purchased it from was top notch. Just in case he or someone recognizes the car, it was a pleasure and he went well out of his way to help me get squared away at the DMV. With that, and a very patient and supportive wife, the day was a success.

As I have been cruising these boards a while, I hope to participate here best I can as I get into maintaining this car.

It was one of those vehicles I would have certainly kicked myself when I got home if I hadn't bought!
