2007 Outlook XE
Dizzy Power steering pump failed, ruined other parts, GM refuses to fix all...

On Thursday of this week, the power steering pump on my 2007 Outlook AWD XE failed. I called the dealership and scheduled an appointment for diagnostics the next day.

After two hours, they called to tell me the that the pump failed and was covered by GM, but that the rack and pinion and the pump hose also needed to be replaced, and that would be $2000.

I called GM and talked to someone who moved me up the chain of command, received a call back from someone at GM that said they would reach out to the dealer and reiterated they would only cover the power steering pump and nothing else.

The dealership had been contacted and offered a whopping 10% discount if I wanted to have them repair the other parts (rack and pinion, pump), but nothing else.

This is ridiculous. The failure of the pump ruined the other items. I shouldn't have to pay for any of these parts.

What a great way to treat a loyal GM customer.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

how mechanically inclined are you? there is a video on youtube on how to change the steering gear and it doesn't seem too difficult. I'll by replacing the one on my wife's 09 when I get home in a couple months. I know you shouldn't have to pay for everything but it will save you about $1500.
