Question We have two trouble code service engine light on

Hi,

We have 2001 Saturn SL2 with 220k miles.

I have two trouble codes P0037 and P0410

I believe p0037 means replace downstream oxygen sensor(after cat)

and p0410 means something about air pump correct?

How should I start trouble shooting please advice.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Trouble codes rarely mean "replace this-or-that", they mean to do further diagnosis in a certain system. Don't just throw parts at it, unless cost is no issue, let's start with that advice.

Edit: check for a blown fuse in the two fuse/relay boxes. You may get lucky and find the same fuse feeds both systems. Somebody else can probably post a picture of specifically which fuse feeds the O2 sensor heater.

You can ignore the P0037 O2 sensor temporarily until the P0410 is repaired. Unless the engine is acting erratically, the rear O2 sensor is used to monitor the catalytic converter's efficiency and reports it for emissions purposes whether or not your state requires emissions inspection.

Search for threads about the secondary air injection system.

But do you think faulty downstream O2 sensor could cause P0410 code (secondary air system code)

Ok how about otherwise...

faulty secondary air system could case fault in downstream O2 sensor?

No one can tell you one way or the other. You may be troubleshooting two separate problems. Since the O2 error code is downstream and temporarily of less importance, troubleshooting the secondary air system is, in my opinion, a priority. It's your choice to choose which problem to work on.
