Default outlook transmission fluid level

Just bought an 09 outlook. The short story is that the dealership told me that the transmission fluid level is not a checked by the dipstick. The correct way is to take out a bolt on the side of the transmission and add fluid until it comes out. If this is the case, why is there a dipstick? When I checked the level with the dipstick it just showed up on the tip. And yes, the engine was hot. Anyone have any insight? Thanks

According to the Haynes manual the only reason it would be low is a leak. The book tells you to do a drain and fill every 30K miles or 30 months. Doing this it tells you to fill it through the dipstick hole like most other vehicles.
