Wrench 2000 Saturn SL2 Shifting Hard

First time posting hoping someone can help me out here.

So whenever I shift into reverse my SL2 shifts hard and when I get to it up to a certain speed in drive (not exactly sure how fast, it varies) it shifts hard. My brother seems to think that it may be a bad solenoid or fuse rather than the tranny itself, but we're not entirely sure.

Hope somebody can give us some insight on this problem, Thanks.

Welcome.
Grab your multimeter and do this:

Or just search using this thread's tittle.
Fairly common problem, and not too difficult to address: you can do it.

I would check tranny fluid and it would do you some good if you changed fluid and filter see if that helps. How many miles on car?

171,000 miles on it. We checked the tranny fluid, and that was fine, but we haven't checked the filter yet. I'll give that a try though, anything that can help! Thank you
