Question 2002 SW2 Idle - high idle?

I have a 2002 SW2, bought pre-owned.

Can someone please tell me what is the 'normal' idle for the car? The tachometer is showing around 1250 RPM, which seems a bit high to me.

I've just changed the oil on the car and there is no check engine light. There seems to be a bit of a reverse slam and I am planning on doing the reverse slam fix I saw posted on this forum.

Thank you.

Cold start - 1200 rpm, warm idle - 800-900 rpm. Hold off on any xmission repairs until you fix the high idling issue as it may be the reason for hard shifts when rpm's are way above normal idle engagement rpm. You can search threads for background info on valve bodies that control xmission shifts electronically, using solenoids. Most, if not all automatics use electronically controlled xmissions.

Some things to do for the high idling; cleaning a dirty throttle body, checking for vacuum leaks, troubleshooting a worn throttle position sensor, etc..

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll try to troubleshoot the high idle issue before the tranny. Anyone try Seafoam on the throttle body? Works well cleaning boat motors.

When i dealt with my high idle issue, (turned out to be throttle position sensor) i started by cleaning the hell out of my throttle body and ran seafoam through the pcv valve, oil and gas. My upper air intake manifold (where the throttle body connects to) afterwards was almost completely cleaned out afterwards. Check into the seafoam spray which is specifically for throttle bodies and you can hit that intake manifold straight on. But seafoaming your engine probably wont make your idle thing go away, but its a good start. Check out richpin on youtube for repairs you want to do yourself hes awesome.
