that car was even automatic... just idling it shot fire out the pipe and poped.. melted wires etc.... another stupid way to backfire is put dohc injectors on sohc.
I'm very curious why you felt in necessary to do this not once but twice....

because the exhaust was rusted off.... i had enough money to get a decent motor to replace the junk motor.. so the new motor had the same garbage hooked up to it.... my car is a a-b car... if i get where i need to go it is a good car

yeah... my first saturn was a half dead 95 sc1... it eventually got overheated and cracked the head... then the waterpump started to go.. it still ran but got very hot... melted the paint. melted motor mount melted spark plugs... i was pouring 3 quarts of oil every 50 miles.... i did the math and found it was cheaper to drive a 1986 cadillac fleetwood than that saturn... no lie.. at 18 mpg average.. at that time gas was 3.69 it is

figure that 20 mpg no oil loss for 100 miles..
i was even generous and did 40 mpg even though it was probably 32 to 35.. include 6 quarts for 100 miles.. at $3.50 a quart for dollar store brand. i think it was $3.50.

Another reason there easy to work on and the most american 4cyl's u can buy, and im a GM guy. I cant afford a cobalt or any other 'sporty' 4cyl. A little more respect? Dissing on a kid thats only 16 and learning wen u should be helping and teaching me, thats why im here or i wouldnt be wasting my time.
If you want respectable, work on your grammar, keep the car quiet sounding, and add a turbo and SAFC or something. Beat them where they can feel it. The sound of your car doesn't do ***** unless you have the power to back it up.

Record the first time you get into boost also. If he were seriously contemplating drilling holes in his exhaust pipe a couple of weeks ago, then this should be quite interesting.

I know its 5 years after but i have a 2001 sc2 5spd with a pre-cat and catalytic bypass done with resonator delete no muffler running a pipe straight back at stock diameter all the way an mine pops like a beast when shifting or on deceleration (engine braking) not running rich or lean also not having any issues with it but i also have all parts needed for a rebuild if anything does go wrong i feel like a few of you was way to hard on the kid for just wanting his (not anyone else's) car to sound a certain way or have people in his scene not laugh i personally hate the sound of a cheap thrush muffler i had a flowmaster outlaw series sounds nice just wanted louder an more aggressive tone....bottom line is yes it can accelerate the deterioration of certain parts if done incorrectly but who cares its his car or toy to do what he wants with saturn is about self expression wasnt aimming to make anyone mad just stating a fact and sharing my set up/experience

OBX Cat-back, quiet in the low end, loud on the fun end. And pops on engine brake, Best thing ever.

Pulling the 02 sensor is going to mess things up in the long run, so kinda a bad move overall. Also best necro first post ^ .^

It looks like a lot of people cared enough to give him honest opinions, learned from some hard life lessons.

****ty "friends" tell you what you want to hear. Real friends will tell you the truth. The friends I can count on when the chips are down are the same people who will tell me to my face, "don't do that, you're being stupid, and here is why"

People who don't have respect for you unless you drive a certain car, that makes a certain sound? Not your friends. Like the old song,

"I have dozens of friends
and the fun never ends,
That is, as long as I'm buying"

folks here told him how to do what he wanted, but also told him why it was stupid / a bad idea. Those are people you can count on

As a 16 yr old kid, that was probably his one and only means of transportation, and probably represents most of his accumulated wealth.

Destroy it to impress some kids who will laugh at him when he becomes a pedestrian? Nah. Real friends would not encourage him to do that.

Nobody was mad in this thread - but some shaking of heads, for sure

Also - no offense, but in addition to the necro post, that was one wall of text with no punctuation.

Spacing and punctuation makes it easier for everyone else to read

I see the OP was run off, too bad for him cause they didnt tell any lies here, probably wrecked the car himself.

However, i can say that it is possible to get pops and cracks out an auto. My car currently has a muffler delete. If i put it into "3" on the shifter, accelerate to 40-45 and let off the throttle and coast, by about 35 or so it creates a nice POP.

Its nice. I like the sound. But i typically hear it when coasting off a highway.
