Question maintenance suggestion - legit, bogus, or prehaps?

Folks:

Took my car in for oil change and it was recommended that I partake in an $180 'major fuel system cleaning'

I do not see this on my maintenance schedule. Car has > 88000 miles

Thoughts? Thank you.

not necessary. Splurge on a bottle of TEchron or just buy anything but ARCO gas.

Use an AMEX card( pay off monthly) at one of the major stations to get better additive package and refund /rebate at end of the year on the card.

DOnt let your car sit overwinter with an empty tank.

More than likely it involves using a solution like Seafoam or some top end cleaner. Usually comes standard with a throttle body cleaning as well from my standard line of work at a dealership level. Get some carb cleaner/throttle body cleaner and clean the throttle body yourself and that usually helps out a whole lot.

The only thing that is really being cleaned out is your wallet.
Modern cars with fuel injections systems using quality brand fuels do not need cleaning.

oil changes are a losing propsition. they need to upsell something to make a profit.
