1993 SC1
Wrench Hunt4Steve's 1993 Carrier Bearing Replacement for Intermediat Shaft

I decided to pull apart the intermediate shaft and replace the bearing inside the carrier that is bolted to the engine block.

Whole lotta rust....

Pealing the old seal out

Normally there is a fair amount of protective grease on the inside of the slinger, which is only there to protect the bearing. However, in this case you can see how a good portion of the grease is missing.

Pressing the shaft out of the carrier

Don't forget to remove the snap-ring before trying to press out this bearing.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

The Intermediate Shaft was fairly rusted. I took a wire brush to it to removed the rust and then lay down a few coats of paint

Excellent! You should put these in the How-To Library.

Excellent write up, I'm glad to know the bearings in those are servicable now that those intermediate shafts are unavailable from GM.

Do you have a part number for the seal?

There are several different designs of that shaft bearing assembly so knowing the year is important to getting all the correct parts to do the rebuild.

For my 1993 saturn the required bearing is a 6206, as indicated by the box in the picture.

As OldNuc has stated, each year may be different. I believe my seal was a 4614N. Autozone will have the seal numbers for your year car.
