1997 SC2
Default Tranny Help

Have a 97 SC2 with 159k miles. Everything is fine until you reach highway speeds and then the car starts blowing trans fluid all over the exhaust. At 35 mph or less, it doesn't leak a drop. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before or has any suggestions short of pulling the tranny.

Thanks!

Um, elephant-in-the-room question -- automatic or manual?

If it's an automatic, the one place where I could imagine it blowing fluid under certain pressure would be the cooling lines that go to the radiator.

Sorry, it is an automatic. Checked the coolant lines and that's not it. The fluid appears to be coming from the torque converter area. I've read about the differential pin coming loose and knocking a hole in the case but wouldn't that leak all the time?

If it's "spotting" while sitting (sounds like a cat with a kidney problem....), start with the obvious external stuff - filter, drain plug, those sensors by the filter. If that's all dry, check the mating between the tranny and engine; a leak there could be the torque converter, or the diff pin has internally poked a hole in the case and it's leaking into that space, and out through the seam.
