Default Battery Light Flashing

The battery light on the dash of my 02 3.0 Vue comes on then goes off. Sometimes it just stays on for a few miles then begins to go off and on.
Could it be the alternator going bad or does the belt need to be adjusted?
Also were is the alternator located? And how do you adjust the belt?
Thanks for any help,

Sounds like your Alternator is on it's way out. Measure your Battery voltage if you can catch it when the light is on.

No adjustment - the Tensioner keeps it tight. If the Tensioner was weak, you would probably hear some squealing.

It's mounted on the firewall side of the Engine - down low.

Thank you for your help. I checked around and the alternators go for about $175.00 Does anybody know were to buy one cheaper? The last couple of months I have put a ton of money in this vehicle.
Thanks again for your help.

Is the alternator hard to get at?

Just wondering if it could be the voltage regulator?

It's not too bad. It looks like there isn't enough room to pull it out between the stabilizer bar or some other obstructions, but it IS possible to turn it just the right way to get it down. There is no separate Regulator. I'm not sure but I think the ECM might handle that function. I remember paying >$200 for mine.

It could be a Diode that's failing. How many miles on your VUE?

Call a few local parts houses to find who can load test generator output.

Do you know condition of the battery?

Are battery cables free of corrosion?

Does the starter have plenty of zip when engine cranks?

The Vue is 10 - 11 years old but 115K sounds young for generator failure.

Today the alternator stopped working all together and the Vue was low on power and when I shut the car off it wouldn't restart. I took the alternator off and had it tested and they told me the output was low and under load it couldn't keep up with charging the battery. The shop is going to rebuild my original alternator for $85.00
I hope this solves my problem.
