2004 L-Series 2.2L Wagon
Question 1st Post! Tailgate latch for LW300 Wagon ... GRRR!

GREETINGS!

This is my first post; I was unable to figure out how to put in classifieds.
My 2004 LW300. 2.2 115,000 needs a tailgate latch assembly; the part that bolts inside the tailgate with two bolts, that the cables attach to.
When I push the tumbler, the cables move, but will not do a thing to release the latch - it is currently stuck in the "locked position".
I've spray cleaned all the contacts and lubed the assembly. Micro switch seems to work. My local pro mechanic {and good friend} claims I need the complete latch assembly.
ANY suggestions and/or Anyone have for sale? Cheapest I can find is 107.00 at my local Chevy dealer, five days delivery. {or $5.00 cheaper at saturnparts.net, unknown delivery date}

Could use ASAP - latch is currently safety wired from inside!

Also, my key has NEVER fit the into the lock tumbler AT ALL. {I think it was replaced} Whats the best route to go for correcting this - have a locksmith cut a key to fit just the tailgate lock tumbler assembly? Will that affect the new latch?
The TSB I found while searching on site doesn't seem to apply here, ie, I don't think the backing washer and/or switch is the culprit; or is it?

MANY THANKS AND HAPPY MOTORING!

Have you tried ebay for parts? With ignition switch keys, members say going to GM and having new keys cut to VIN is best as this seems to work every time.

Dear fdryer and triton,

Thank you for your prompt replies!
Yes; I looked and looked and no one has the part. The latch is definitely shot, so I had to bite the bullet and order a new one from the dealer for delivery on Wendsday.
As for the lock tumbler, it is jammed; the key has never gone in more than ± 1/8" and when I tried to pick it, I can feel an obstruction, so either one of the prongs is jammed, or someone broke a key in there. There is only one key for the car - as verified by the dealer - and that works fine on the ignition, glove box and door. The dealer suggestion was to but a new tumbler {$95.00!!!}, which would then have to keyed to match my key for another $100.
He suggested I call a locksmith. I went to one and he said if I pull the tumbler he should be able to repair it and key it to my key for ±*$50.00.
Hope it can be repaired.

As for OEMparts123, they said the latch is unavailable - PERIOD and I'd have to go used. Too bad; that's a nice savings you found for me. In any event they are a good resource to have; thank you! Now I just have to hope I don't get a surprise next week from my dealer telling me the same!

Many thanks, guys!
