Yeah, I thought that the chrome against the white looked pretty awful, so I actually smoked the chrome. In person you can see that it's still chrome, it's just got a black candy-coat over it to make have a sort of 'piant-black' look to it. The lower center part of the rear bumper was also begging to be blacked out, so I did that at the same time.

no idea about the stock XR setup, but the new setup is adjustable between 30 and 60mm of lowering.

Update: installation of all the new hardware occurs tomorrow. I'll try to take as many pics to show the process as possible, for those that have never taken suspension off any other car before

Take lots of pictures and notes if you can...I know the value of a good write up and since you are looking like the first in this community to tackle a major mod, the information you get would be invaluable.

PS Do you have a part number for the coilovers by any chance?

the Astra 3-door XR is 15mm lower than the 5-door XE

I believe mdcclxxvi sold his Astra 2 years ago.

There are some pics of his car in various places around the site. It was one of the most modified Astras in North America at one point.
