Hi everyone, back again!
I recently had the timing chain replaced on my 2004 vue, after it broke, which also damaged the engine head so that it also was redone. Then catalytic converter went, so in the month of jan/feb, I sunk about 3000 into my car.....then we were in an accident where we were rear ended..... Anyway came back after collision repair, ticking engine.....no oil.....replaced 5 quarts after about 2000 miles......checked oil at around the 700 mile mark, and needs almost another 5 quarts....no oil in driveway, no blue smoke.....what gives? Any answers? Katie

If it isn't leaking - and is not being mixed with coolant - it must be part of combustion mixture.
One way to check if the engine crankcase ventilation system is creating vacuum is to remove the oil dipstick and run engine at 1500 RPM. There should be a vacuum at dipstick hole (use a gauge of piece of paper). I've also pasted service manual extract regarding oil consumption: Oil Consumption Diagnosis Excessive oil consumption, not due to leaks, is the use of 0.9 L (1 qt) or more of engine oil within 3 200 kilometers (2,000 miles). The causes of excessive oil consumption include the following conditions: External oil leaks Tighten bolts and/or replace gaskets and oil seals as necessary. Incorrect oil level or improper reading of oil level indicator With the vehicle on a level surface, allow adequate drain down time and check for the correct oil level. Improper oil viscosity Use recommended SAE viscosity for the prevailing temperatures. Continuous high speed driving and/or severe usage Crankcase ventilation system restrictions or malfunctioning components Valve guides and/or valve stem oil seals worn, or the seal omitted Ream guides and install oversize service valves and/or new valve stem oil seals. Piston rings broken, improperly installed, worn, or not seated properly Allow adequate time for rings to seat. Replace broken or worn rings as necessary. Piston improperly installed or mis-fitted ...
