erratic idle with high rpm
just got finished taking out then replacing the transmission in my 99 sl2. when i got everything back together and started it the idle was very low then all of a sudden spikes to 4000 rpms or more. wats going on here?

When dropping an engine or xmission, many parts are removed for access.
A sudden very high rpm idle might be the large vacuum hose falling off that feeds to the brake vacuum boost unit. Lots of old vacuum hoses will crack or dry out and disintegrate from simple handling. Check all vacuum lines.
