rear turn signal bulb #?

Ok, so the canbus is telling me I have a rear signal light bulb out. No problem I figure. I take it out and see that the filament is indeed burnt out. I try to stick a 1156 in there but no go. A few more 1156's later I figure it must be a specific bulb. Sure enough, 1129 is the number on the original OEM bulb. Head over to Napa and pick one up. Plug it in and nothing. Now I switch out the OEM reverse bulb and it works just fine. Still nothing out of the NAPA bulb. OK pick up a couple more 1129 from a different supplier. Again nothing. When I switch the two remaining OEM bulbs to different sockets, they all light up. I note that the OEM 1129's have what looks to be a resistor inside the bulb. The aftermarket bulbs do not. Anyone else run into this problem? Do I need to buy the bulb at a dealer or what? Weird.

Did you cycle ignition? If the bulb is out, the controller switches the circuit off. It tries again next time you start the car.

Yes, I switched the ignition on and off between bulb changes as I did notice the canbus was not responsive to changes until the ignition was cycled.

Well, it turns out 1156 is the correct bulb after all. The 1156's I tried must have been dead. The 1129 is actually a 6V bulb and they don't last too long in the Astra!
