2002 SL2
Default 2002 SL2 high idle

I have a 2002 SL2 with a high idle warm or cold (1400 - 1700 RPMs). Initially I had a code 301 (cyl 1 misfire) and a 507 (high idle). I have changed plugs, wires, PCV, new ignition module, and cleaned the throttle body and IAC so you could drink fine wine from them. Lastly I swapped the coils and the code 301 disappeared (crazy, huh?). The 507 hangs around like a bad house guest. From previous threads I was informed to look for a vacuum leak around the intake manifold, but found nothing. Does anyone have a guess or should I move to a new state that does not require an emissions test?
Thanks.

Did you take some brake cleaner (with the little red tube) and douse the area around the intake manifold on the passenger side of the motor? I've got a 2002 SL that had the folded gasket, high idle and code for misfire. When I sprayed, the engine stumbled a bit. Good luck!

The folded gasket problem is usually associated with the SOHC engines.

I am certainly not an expert but I had high idle problems which caused overheating in traffic in my 98 SL2 and it all ended up tracing to bad oxygen sensors. I think it was just the one by the cat converter but I replaced both. Solved my problem. Maybe yours is the same.
