Default low traction warning

2004 Saturn Ion 3, takes 205/55/16.
I put 215/60/16 on the back last night, after being assured by 2 tire dealers that it would not affect anything. The front has the original size tires.
Got it out on the road and low traction warning light comes on and stays on only when going up an incline, and when speeding up to change lanes.
Any ideas what the problem might be?

my guess is tires are turning at different speeds because of different size tires so the car thinks tires are slipping because they are turning faster than the other two.

you need to have the same size tire on all four corners. you would want 215/50R16 to have a very close match to 205/55R16 tires.

http://1010tires.com/TireSizeCalcula...?action=submit

there is a 5% tire diameter difference between the 205/55 and the 215/60. where as the 205/55 to 215/50 is 1.65%

brapple is absolutely right. The reason for this is that the wheel speed sensors (that are also used by the ABS) sense that the different-diameter tires are spinning at different speeds, so it concludes that two of the wheels must be sliding. That's a problem. The traction control system may start cutting engine power to try and stop the "skid." Changing tire size slightly from stock isn't usually a problem, but you need the same size tires on all four wheels to avoid screwing up the ABS/TCS computer.

why would you put the wrong size tire on the car, anyways? put the right size on the back, problem solved.

and that wide a tire doesn't wear unevenly from being put on a 6.5" or 7" (can't remember which it is) rim?

its on a 7in rim. It gets driven about 2500 miles a year, and almost eats them up durring those miles so I buy new ones every year.
