2002 SL2 Getting SES P0410
My 2002 SL2 has had a P0410 code for a while, which is a problem with the AIR pump. I followed Richpin's video for troubleshooting the system and quickly figured out that my pump is working just fine, but I replaced the two little vacuum lines anyway just because they were rock hard and likely to leak soon. So the culprit was a blocked tube and/or passages in the exhaust manifold.
I'm posting a few photos here of my cleaning effort for the future benefit of others. This only pertains to the 2000-2002 DOHC engines although I think some 99's also had the air pump. Not sure if the SOHC had them or not. My car has 209K miles on it and has been burning a lot of oil for a long time.
First photo: air pump end of the tube, doesn't look too bad...
Second photo: exhaust manifold end of the tube, uh oh...
Third photo: opening in exhaust manifold, yep, that's not good...
Fourth photo: what the pipe should look like.
I didn't get an after photo of the exhaust manifold opening, but I wasn't able to completely clean it either since I didn't remove it. That will be another weekend. Hopefully these will be of some use or amusement to someone with the same problem.
