Default 98 SC1 transmission

Hello all!
I was driving on the interstate two days ago, stepped on the gas to get around a car, and then heard a loud bang and a lot of grinding. Pulled over and all of my transmission fluid was leaking out of a 2-inch hole in the pan. It rolled downhill in park.
I towed it to a shop nearby and they told me something about a third something or other was missing and that the transmission would have to be replaced. They found a used tranny with 89k miles for $680 and they want $800 to install it.
The car itself has 110k miles, 1.9L SOHC, idles smoothly, doesn't have any unusual noises or any other problems except for an exhaust leak in the flange behind the cat. I'm looking for some opinions to see if it's worth the repair or not. What do you guys think?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

That wasn't the pan; there isn't one. That was the case that broke. A pin worked loose in the differential and centrifugally shot through your tranny. Do a search here on "diff pin" for similar horror stories. It's typically caused by spinning the front tires (burnouts, spinning on snow/ice) followed by abrupt regaining of traction, but on a few occasions, folks who have never done anything like this report throwing the diff pin.

A used tranny shouldn't cost more than $200-300. Not sure about the labor, but that number seems high. If it totals out at more than $1000, you're likely better off buying another Saturn and keeping this one as a parts donor.
