Default VUE will not move

I am looking to purchase a 2003 Saturn VUE 2.2L engine Automatic AWD. The owner says it will not move and it is the transmission that needs to be replaced. It will start and run but when in gear it will not move. Is this a common problem and does it really need the whole transmission or could it be fixed.

You need to search for "VTI". Be prepared to learn that you have to spend big bucks for a replacement tranny that will possibly last long enought to recover your initial investment - possibly.

EDIT: I misread the original post: i.e. 2.2L 4-banger rather than v6.. My mistake.

The 02-03 VUE AWD V6 has a conventional automatic transmission with fixed gears, not a CVT (a.k.a. VTI).

My recommendation to you is don't buy it. It will probably be expensive to fix if any major parts need replacement. AWD=a little more complicated than 2WD. There are more reliable vehicles out there than the 02-03 VUE (not to mention cheaper to service). I would at least suggest getting at a minimum an 04+ VUE, with the Honda 3.5 V6 engine, if you want the V6 or AWD.

Yep. Transmission is broken.

Or I guess an extremely long shot would be that you've got the brakes hanging up. But that transmission is known to blow out.

In all likelihood, the cost of fixing the transmission will exceed the current value of the vehicle. Better to just walk away from this one.

I just walked away from a inexpensive 2002 mini cooper with a very expensive CVT transmission failure as well.

I wonder if that VTI is as bad as VW's current DSG

many many failures, and a VERY expensive piece of hardware.
