Default Car tops out at 110?

Whenever I hit 110mph (bad idea I know) the car cuts out and "hesitates". This is a safety feature I'm sure. But it also does it when I accelerate to quickly and lose traction. I hope this is a safety feature and it's supposed to do this, but it's given me many close calls when trying to beat traffic. Is there any way to disable this?

as far as the speed limiter, yes it's a safety thing based on your tires features. As far as cutting out while accelerating hard it means that you're loosing traction and the traction control is kicking in. Are you tires getting old?

probably about 20K on the tires. Is every Ion outfitted with traction control? There's no actual traction control button but I'm guessing that it has full time traction control.

No button no traction control, you are likely hitting the rev limiter when you lose traction.

Is there still a rev limiter on an auto? Also it seems like the revs are at about 3-4K, no more than normal highway acceleration.

yes, there is a rev limiter on pretty much any car/engine. I forget the exact figure for the ion, but I'd guess it's around 6K RPM.
Did you confirm if you indeed have TC? It's a button on your dash, next to the hazard lights. On the ion TC and ABS came together as a package.
If you have no TC and you are having a loss of power around 3-4K RPM then there is something else going on. Just brainstorming here, but it could be your intake manifold needing a good cleanup, new air and fuel filter, worst case a clogged cat converter.

If your reving in park or neutral the rev limiter will not let you go above 4,000 or 4,200 rpms. As your driving the shift points are set at around 6,500. If you put it in say in first gear the car will hit the rev limiter again around 6,500.

My ion does not have traction control for sure. The way it's reacting, it would seem as though it does. It only happens when I lose traction, and I kept an eye on it today and it did it between the 1.5K mark and the 2.5k mark while the tires were spinning.
