I just had this crazy thought. Like crazy but its plausible.
Idea is for Aftermarket/Custom air intakes: Okay, so your MAF (Mass Airflow) sensor sends info to your ecu according to the temperature of the sensor right? well what if you were to relocate the sensor to say, the front near your filter where the tubing is less hot and air is colder( its located in the middle usually where the engine heat flows off of) . A colder sensor means different air/fuel ratios due to codes being sent to ecu which means little more power, right? that and/or better gas milage. Im probably going to sand down my manifold and give it a good can of High Heat temp paint (heat resistant to like 2000F) for cooler engine bay. Creates a barrier between the heat inside and outside of the manifold/header so the hot gas are flushed out quicker. what ya think? P.S. Sorry for Topic name lol, we dont have IAT (Inlet Air Temperature) sensor, does the same job but a different way i believe. I'm going out on a limb but id like constructive critcism here, thank ya :P ... -Woman are almost as enjoyable as cars... except modding would be near to impossible. \ Last edited by hudman; 11-03-2009 at 09:20 PM..

2.2L 4-cylinder engines don't have a maf sensor. The intake air temperature sensor is in the air tube. Relocating it will do very little for engine performance; a hot engine that's stopped will influence the air temperature sensor but once the engine is running, fresh air is flowing through and automatically lowers this preheated air tube back to ambient air temperatures. Moving the iat sensor upstream anywhere will have little net gain since ideal temperature measurement is only when there's air flow. Engine heat won't have any effect as long as there's normal air flow through the intake system.
To see this correctly from the air temperature sensor would be to insert a temperature probe next to the iat and monitor air temperatures before and during engine running, when the engine's cold and after a brief shutdown for heat soaking. Most of the heat soaking will raise temps but only for a few seconds until fresh air moves across the sensors, when the engine is running. ... The CPS is the heart of the entire EFI system. No cps = dead EFI system. There's more to a/c than just a few cans of refrigerant.............

The sensor is heated so the airflow will be measured at a constant temp. Relocating the sensor to a cooler part of the engine will just cause the sensor to run hotter to compensate giving you the same settings, and therefore the same performance, as before you moved it.

Okay thank you for clearing that up for me. I was ignorant on that concept and glad i had some intellectual people to help out with that.
