Default New SC3 Owner

I bought a '99 SC2 manual a few weeks ago after my Grand Am decided to quit. Was driving it to the junk yard and it got about 100 feet before something major broke and it spewed oil all over the street, but I digress.

The SC2 has 117,800 on it, dark green, couple minor scratches, but its 10 years old. No major problems that I've discovered so far. Already fixed the sticky gas pedal thanks to this site.

Unfortunately I do burn oil (1 qt. per 1000 miles or so), which seems to be common, so I check it religiously every Sunday.

Thanks for all the advice I've found on this forum already.

EDIT: just realized I misspelled SC2 and no way to change the title that I can find...

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

2002 SC2
Dizzy Re: New SC3 Owner

If only they would come out with an SC3! That would be very cool. I bought my 2002 SC2 back in Feb. due to having my Grand Am totaled in a wreck (other driver's fault). I wonder how many people on here have gone from a Grand Am to a Saturn?

Oddly enough....there were 10 SL3's built but no SC3. 6 in Spring Hill and 4 in Detroit. The last known surviving one was crushed when it was found in the Spring Hill plant during the retool in 2003.

I learned this from an engineer in car final at the plant. I asked him about it after reading a rumor. He was sad that he couldn't sneak it out somehow.

Do you have any legitimate proof of this, aside from the printed SL3 info that was printed in some owner handbooks. There has been talk about this for years...I would be interested in seeing your proof of what you mention in your post. I would find it hard to believe that if any SL3's were built...how would they have built them in Detroit, since Spring Hill was the only manufacturing facility that Saturn had, until Wilmington was retooled to build the L-Series...

I saw a SL3 in Troy (metro Detroit area) once. It was a blue black sedan with coupe (pop-up) headlights on it. This was in 1992 after I bought my 92 SC and was driving by Saturn's office on Stephenson Hwy. I also saw a yellow SC back in 1993. It was parked in some dudes driveway with the doors open. He had just washed and vacuumed it or something when I was riding by on my bicycle. I saw him cutting the lawn so I rolled up the driveway to ask where and how he got a YELLOW coupe since that was not an option back then. It turned out he was Jay Wetzel -- chief engineer of Saturn and the car was a prototype of some sort. It had yellow bits and pieces inside too. I asked how much it would cost to get mine painted that color and he said it was like $10,000 because they would have to MAKE the paint.

What about the ION4 sedans that had the coupe front end and the Redline powertrain?

My proof is from an engineer who worked in the Spring Hill plant. He helped build the prototypes. If I can get a hold of him I'll try to get more info.

Basically I asked my father in law about it (he worked in car final) and he verified it with an engineer he knew.

edit: A lot of prototype cars used to be built in Detroit regardless of what plant ended up making them. They would ship the parts there and let engineers put them together. Silly eh?
