Default Transmission sporadically slipping in hot weather

I have a 2002 AWD 6 cyl. automatic VUE with 79,000 miles on it. The last 2 weeks it's been HOT here (I'm in Texas) and I've noticed that my transmission sporadically slips in hot weather, especially when going from 3rd to 4th gear (but sometimes between 2nd and 3rd). It doesn't happen unless it's above 97 or 98 degrees outside. I haven't ever changed the transmission fluid or filter--is this where I should start? Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks!

The transmission (Aisin) had a revised servicing schedule of 60,000 instead of 100,000. I suggest you have your transmission serviced. Low fluid levels would give the problems you are describing.

You will probably have to go the dealership (unless you have the tools and access to Alldata). Cost runs aroun $200. They use a lot of fluid in the draining, flushing, and refilling of the tranny.

When a tranmission is slipping, that is not good news. It may go away on colder days, but if a lack of fluid is the problem, the cost of replacing the tranny is 10X that of servicing.

IIWU, I'd take it to get looked at.

It's probably not 'slipping'. This trans is subject to 'flares' between shifts, particularly 3 to 4, under the best of conditions. Let the oil get old or low, and you'll get it more often. Check for leaks and change the trans oil ASAP as advised in your other thread on this problem.
