OUTSTANDING WRITEUP! Very much appreciated, everyone vote for this post as an outstanding addition to the forum.

I would like to add that the part number that you have for the dvd version seems to have changed. The one you list doesn't appear in any online catalog or dealer lookup, but p/n 25816282 does. This is for the NAV/DVD part. I was unable to find your part number in any database or a cross reference index either, but the ebay seller you list does carry that part number, obviously since you have it. Just a search thing for other users to use. From gmpartsdirect, the nav/dvd radio is $1529, non dvd is $1341. Seems like the ebay seller you list has several of these offered right now for 800 bucks! nice! I'm all over it. Oh, by the way, if you don't have the Advanced Audio package, you likely will need to add the VSS wire, just an FYI.

Another, way less detailed, guide for this operation can be found here:

The unit with the p/n 25816282 has blue lites behind the buttons not orange that matches the rest of the dash lights in the Outlook.

I actually used this eBay guide as a basis for doing my installation. Without it I may have never tried to do it. I thought that by posting more details pictures of the install on the Epsilon platform forums like this one will inspire more people to do this. Seems like its working!

Wow, good to know! I might go ahead and get the blue lighted one, might be a good contrasting color against the orange. If I can find a place that has the orange p/n for that price I'll go that route, though. If anyone finds a good source for it, post up. Seems the A and T dealer on ebay is the only one really offering it for less than GM's new part price.

Can you clarify the part about setting the destination info? Are you not able to put in where you want to travel to? Thanks

The car has to be stopped to input destination info to plan the route. This means you can be in Drive, but your foot on the brake at a stop sign, and be allowed to input an address. Once you are off the brake or moving, the fields become inopperative until you stop again.

I should also note that the pictures should have had the removal of the Driver's side A-Pillar cover done after removing the one from the Passenger side. The front cowl panel cannot be removed until both A-Pillar covers are removed.

Will your warrenty be affected by taking out a factory unit and replacing it with a unit not bought through or installed by your dealer? Did the nav unit come with a warrenty from the seller? That would be my only concern is something would go wrong with it and the dealer saying tough luck you should have gone through us because some part of the warrenty is void is now and your stuck holding the bag!!!

Any modification brings the risk of the dealer saying "tough luck" on a future repair. I doubt the Nav would be warranted should there be an issue. If they have some way of knowing it did not come with Nav, then I would say it is not covered. If they can't know for sure if it was installed at the factory, then they may cover repairs. I doubt they could void the warranty on anything other than the radio. For them to say anything else is related would be a big stretch.

At this point I feel pretty confident it will work. The seller gave a no-DOA warranty, and that's about it. Since the Nav unit is a factory unit, I would say a dealer would be hard pressed to deny any other claim for repairs they say would be related to the installation. Also, since all of the factory wiring was used unchanged, chances of a problem are small.

They won't warrenty the replacement radio if it breaks. The factory has build sheets for every car made and every part that went in the car and how it was optioned. The dearlership has access to this information. Chances you will be able to get warranty on the nav unit from the dealership if it breaks are slim and none!!

Great writeup. Have you looked into the possibility of adding the factory backup camera? I wonder if the 08's are prewired in the rear hatch for it, and just requires adding the camera module?

No, I haven't considered the rear camera. Not sure if I want to go with that or what the cost would be. If I knew it would work, I may consider it. As for prewiring, mine is an '07, so I doubt it has the needed harness. I would guess all '08s do.

excellent write up. I wish our service manuals were this detailed.

btw that plug, is more then likely for the DVD. the Vehicle speed sensor has no reason to run back there.

it depends on how they look up what radio it has. If they look it up by the VIN number it will show that was not factory. However since we keep gettin gburned by looking radios up by the vin number, due to the fact that the vin information does not distinguish between a single or a 6 disc changer, and other options. we pull the radio ID right out of the car from the Tech 2. So theoretically if they never looked up that vin info to see what was originally installed in the car. They might not ever know you changed it.

Hey, this post was terrific, I used the pictures and installed a Pioneer AVIC D3 in my 07 outlook XE. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lorien8...ted=2123880030 Here are some photos. My unit has DVD, DIVX!!!, BT telephone and Audio, and a Rear View Camera, ipod connector for about 1000 dollars. It's really simple to install although the instructions by crutchfield was somewhat vague. The rearview camera is awesome because I park in a garage all day and it's so much easier getting in and out.
