Default Transmission Update

I brought my Outlook in this morning to have the airbag recall checked. I asked them about the transmission update and I was told I could have it done, but it will cause the truck to get worse gas mileage.

Does anybody know if this is true? I have experienced some lag, which is why I thought the update would help. But if the mileage is going to be worse I told them not to do it.

Now I'm wondering if what he told me is true or not. I'm debating on calling them right now and having them just do the update.

Thanks in advance on any advice.....

The 64TE (if thats the right code) in the Outlook is programed for MAX fuel economy. But to that they (GM) really had to pull back on performance.
The update is to make the trans more eager to downshift when you need it to. I can see how you MPG might drop ever so slightly, but not huge drop off.

Hope that helps,
BTW I I really wish Saturn would have offered a sport mode for the trans like I have on my Volvo. That really really helps when you need the extra get up and go.

Are you buying a car or a discount?

In a month, you're not gonna look in your driveway and say, "Check out my discount."

Thanks for the info....I think I'll just wait and see, before I do the update.

I know it's a change of subject, but I already have two rock chips on the windshield. The first one I had filled, but eventually started to crack. The second just happened and it was so deep, it cracked a good 12" each way within hours of the chip.

I'm having it replaced tomorrow. "EXPENSIVE WINDSHIELD". That was the words out of the 3 different places I called to get a bid. Bid's ranged from $500-$700.
