Default Service Engine Soon light

Hi all, I'm a newbie here. I found this site awhile ago when I was having issues with my DRL. Thanks to this sight we were able to fix it without taking it in, so thanks for that . Now the problem is the Service Engine Soon light, it stays on all the time. It's a 2003 Vue V-6 AWD with 37,000 miles. It started doing this a few weeks ago when the temps dropped to 10 below 0. We have unplugged the battery to see if it would reset and it did for a week and now it's back on again. Help, please

Probably a low coolant temperature signal. The thermostats on these fail cold. Have you been getting good heat and has the temp gauge been running normally? Also, have made sure the gas cap always gets at least three clicks?

Assuming you are out of warranty....

Take it to parts store like autozone or advance auto parts... They should be able to look up the codes for you, for free. Write the actual codes(not the description) and post them here. Hope that gets you started to tackle the error codes.

Welcome to the Board.

We need codes to help you out. The SES light being on covers a lot of ground.

is it a solid light or a blinking light, it makes a difference. and having someone pull the codes is kind of the entire reason for having them, makes it a lot easier to fix the problem.

Unfortunaely if it's like mine the generic readers won't be able to read the codes. Mine said "No faults/codes" with the light burning away on two different OBDII readers. Hopefully yours isn't a vehicle specific code.

Good luck

Dave

When the weather warmed up to above 30 here in boston my SES light went off. I had it coded before it went off and found out on this board what my code meant. I was kind of freaking out beuase I had just dumped money into it and now I was going to have to dump more. but then the light just shut itself off. funny thing is all of us posters with po 128 code with 2003 vue had the same problem with the themostat code thing when the weather had hit fridgid.
