2003 VUE 3.0L
1998 SW2
Default Is it the BCM or something else?

I bought my 03 Vue (AWD V6) end of December. Brought it back In February because the shifting was funny. It would downshift at very odd moments, and shifted funny anytime I went down hill, or had to slow down and gas it up again.

So, the dealer said that my engine compartment fuse box cover was loose. They said they reset the BCM, and to drive it for a while, and see what happened. Well, it seemed fine until a few weeks ago. I had to jump the car (dead battery), and used the little cable clip thing right next to the box for the jump. Well, I think that distured the box, because the problems started again. I was doing 75 on the highway yesterday, tapped the break to slow down to 70, and the thing downshifted!! And, going up hill, it gets stuck in like 3rd gear and won't shift. And today, my security light came on for about 30 second while I was driving.

OK, so what do we think? I am definitely thinking a computer problem, because when the car is shifting good, it is flawless. And it runs very good. The security light thing is leaning me towards the computer issue.

Anyone else have an idea, or had similar problems??

Other than that, I love my VUE

Thanks!!

A faulty BCM (body control module located under the radio) could account for the security light but the transmission is controlled by its own computer (located under the hood behind the fuse box) with some input from the engine computer (mounted to the LH side of the engine). Of course all of these computers talk to each other ....lets not forget the air bag computer (under the center console) and the electric steering computer (mounted on the steering shaft).

I have seen jump starts confuse these computers (sometimes to the point they need to be reflashed at the dealer), I would try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes and allow them all to reset.

2003 VUE 3.0L
1998 SW2
Default Re: Is it the BCM or something else?

Well, they had my VUE for 3 days at Saturn. They replaced the PCM, and so far it seems much better. So, we shall wait and see...
