Default Wierd Saturn L200 Gas Gauge/ Temp Gauge and change oil light probs!

Hello, I have a 2002 L200 and have recently had this prob.. Only owned the car 2months, first the change oil light could not be reset, the odometer would reset after every start, etc.. Go back to 67425, now the gas and temp gauges top out to the right whenever car is on, and also the oil change light comes on numerously throughout driving.. Beep beep beep... Does anyone have any thoughts? Also, I bought the little run around car very cheap and sometimes if it does not start I have to unhook the pos battery cable and reattach it then it will start. Thanks!

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Welcome to SaturnFans, Crittercage (great name, btw)! The symptoms you're describing commonly relate to a failing Body Control Module, BCM, and is only corrected by replacing this computer. It's attached to, and located on the top of the glove box. Do a search within SaturnFans through the Advanced Forum Search, limit the search area to the L Series Forums, use a key word/phase like body control module, BCM, BCM going bad, BCM problems, dash lights flashing, odometer reads incorrect mileage...etc...

If indeed you have a bad BCM then you have two options to repair this.
1) Find a wrecking yard used unit. It will replace your old one, but you will lose your actual mileage information because that component of the BCM legally cannot be tampered with. The mileage seen at the instrument cluster would be that which the used BCM had last stored from its original vehicle. There is a 30 minute procedure to "marry" a used BCM to your car's system and can be done by a DIYer. It's been posted various times by fdryer.
2) Get a new replacement unit. It is much more expensive and must be programmed at a GM dealership by a mechanic using their Tech II Scan Tool. (It is rare that one finds an independent repair shop owning this scanner.) In this scenario the mileage information can be transferred from your old unit to the new one.

Do you see the SES or Wrench lamp remaining illuminated after start up and when the car is being driven? What is the condition of the battery and the charging system?
