I have something odd going on in my 5-speed 2003 VUE. As I come towards a stop, I depress the clutch and coast until I stop.. Once stopped, when I go to push the lever into 1st (not all the time, seems int.) there is a light 'clunk' that takes place... almost like something was spinning and putting it into gear (even with the clutch fully depressed) abruptly stops it. What could cause this? I also noticed it seems hard to place the car into gear (mainly 1 and 2) when the car is moving... yet in a lot with the engine off, it runs through the gears fine.

Just a guess, but prolly just needs to be broken in a bit more till it shifts smoothly. The release bearing is responsible for making sure nothing is spinning if the car is stopped and you put it in gear. But it seems to me like normal stick issues.... just be gentle with it and don't force it into 1st gear while moving, you'll damage the selector forks.

i've run across this before. have the tech at your retailer to check the shift cable adjustment. some times these dont get set properly during assmbley. close is not the same as right on in this case. and if the cables are off, even slightly, shifting will be difficult if not impossible.
