Default Temp Gauge Dead, ECTS Replacement?

My engine temperature gauge is dead, is this just an indication of a dead ECTS?

If it's the '99 SL2 in your profile, actually no. When the ECTS goes completely the PCM goes into open loop and the gauge will read right in the center. The fan will run full time too. I'm not sure what your problem is. However, if you still have the original ECTS, I strongly advise you to replace.

No, I had the ECTS replaced when I got the car, which was at 107k miles, it now has almost 131k on it.

As advised by BarnOwl, focus on the ECTS and its connector. If it is unhooked, the gauge should be in the center. If it is reading all the way to the left, there must be a loosen connection giving improper data or the ECTS may have broken.
