By all means, follow advice given from knowledgeable sources. I stand by my method, never overfilling my tank but add about close to a half gallon that equates to adding less than a dollar of fuel. This isn't overfilling and I've been doing this for years without one error code related to the evap system and overfilling. My present car is filled this way since I bought it back in '05.
