I replaced my front bearings a couple of years ago, one was making some noise so I did both just because I had to go to the guy with the press anyway.

The back ones are still good, at 177K+ miles.

I think bearing life depends a lot on weather- harsh salt belt winters seem to kill all parts including bearings. My car is a sun belt car Also the degree of difficulty to get everything apart is related to tons of salt on the roads.
