Default Re: Need screw in fitting for water heater hose, dr. side

SC2Dave-
Following 454cid suggestion, if hose diam=5/8 buy two npt hose barb nipples, one with 1/2" npt thread, maybe a second with 3/8" npt nipple.

Then go undercar with wrenches and try to get the old nipple to unscrew.
There's a good chance the hex/thread portion is intact... but you need find out.
If it breaks apart, can maybe remove with a screw thread extractor, or even use various screwdrivers to jam/turn. Worst case, use hacksaw blade & punch/chisel to break apart the threaded sidewall, then prise out fragments....

Clean threads in head of debris(as with tiny wirebrush), thread in the new nipple to check fit....remove , coat threads with Pipe Sealing Compound
install nipple, tighten just more than by hand with wrench, Remove & Repeat to insure the Pipe sealant is on entire threaded bore in head, tighten firmly.

The hosebarb/nipple needs be galvanized steel/iron Not plastic or bronze or brass. Actually Aluminum might be available, and might work... but i'd stick with the original zinc/galvanized steel/iron.
