Default Re: Gasoline - Regular, Mid Grade, or Premium?

The chances of $4/gal regular 87-octane fuel by the fourth of July (if not sooner) are very good. Premium fuel, which is recommended by Nissan for the VQ35DE engine in my Maxima, (91 octane or better) is closing in on $3.65/gal in my area.

The nationwide average cost of regular fuel has already broken a record set on August 29, 2005 (the day Katrina made its second landfall on the LA/MS border) and is only a few cents off its 1981 high adjusted for inflation.

Compared to other countries, our gas is still relatively cheap, but who knows how much longer that advantage will last as China and India demand more oil and rapidly industrialize. That's why Astra owners (as well as drivers of fuel-efficient subcompacts that are not the tin-foiled deathtraps of yore) will laugh all the way to the bank.
