I never drove an AWD Vue, but I thought it was just an "on demand" system... meaning that it "kicks on" ,automatically, when it senses front wheels slipping- . I believe the clutches in the RDU lock up electronically when the computer senses the slip, and rear wheels, then, take up some slack- but only while things are slippery between the front and rear.

NO more slip, no more AWD( and back to FWD).
