SOHC/DOHC CR question

Posting this here since I'm sure you'll know. Searching hasn't turned anything up that I can see, correct me if I'm wrong.

Got a '97 SOHC with the dished pistons, doing a rebuild on the bottom...

Re: 03 Ion battery

Well, it's a group 75 vented 6 year battery. I've stuck with ACDelco, but I'm biased. If it were my car, I'd replace it with the proper vented battery. If the one you have now has lasted six years,...

Re: pacesetter headers

Your S-Series doesn't interchange parts with the Ion, so why do you think quality is the same? My old 2003 Ion with intake, throttle body, header, high flow cat, and catback exhaust made 132.5...

Re: SuperCharger

Kinda sad then, that my little Mazda can beat the snot out of a Sky Redline on the track. Ion's a sporty car, not a sports car.

Re: Weight of a Rim

16X6" aluminum alloy wheel on the shelf is about 17 lbs. shipping weight in a light cardboard box. That's for the '06-'07 Ion, we don't have the old four-spokes on the shelf anymore.

Re: Performance/MPG Improvement Questions...

I work at Saturn, so I've gotta keep up to date on the aftermarket scene. Besides, I still keep tabs on the ol' Fast Ion 1, just in case aftermarket tuning comes out. Then again, I'm test driving an...

Re: Performance/MPG Improvement Questions...

The Miata post that started this whole mess is a reference to me. I had a 2003 Saturn Ion and spent about $6000 on it upgrading the engine, suspension, and transmission. For all my efforts with the...

Re: mod help

Would you like a dyno-proven combination? For a 2003, mix in an AEM cold air intake, a Pacesetter header, high-flow cat, Thermal R&D catback exhaust, add a dash of big bore throttle body and be...

Re: Using 14" or 15" rims from older ION on 2006 ION QC -what older rims will fit ?

As has been said before, there's absolutely no differences in the hub or brake caliper placement for the 14", 15", and 16" wheels. Any Ion wheel aside from the five lug Redline wheel will bolt up...

Re: Rear brakes - Go Squeek?

Either take the drums off and hit it with some brake clean or live with the fact that your car has rear drums. Unfortunately they do make noise and there's little that can be done to fix the issue....

Re: Passenger Steering Knuckle Breakage?

I don't see the issue at hand. Your car is under warranty and the part broke. It shouldn't do that, obviously. Phone up your Saturn retailer, explain the situation, and ask if it's covered by...

Re: Inexpensive source for 2003 Ion 3 Front Sway Bar bushings/brackets

My pet theory for the slow speed clunk is that it's there at all speeds, but when you're going slow there's less wind, tire, and engine noise to hide the sound. Your senses are also heightened at low...

Re: Windshield wiper problem

It's extraordinarily rare that the nuts on the wiper arms go loose, but it is quite frequent that the wiper transmission breaks. It's simple plastic brackets with an aluminum pipe connecting them, so...

Re: Inexpensive source for 2003 Ion 3 Front Sway Bar bushings/brackets

You do know that saturnparts.net isn't actually Saturn, but a Saturn dealership in Georgia, right? You have always been able to get swaybar bushings on their own, and new clamps aren't necessary....

Re: Fuel flush

Fuel flush is absolute bunk, don't waste your money on it. The only instance in which your fuel tank needs care is if you run completely dry, then you would need to replace the fuel filter. DO NOT...

Re: Things that I miss...

I learned how to drive in Dad's 1995 SL1, and to me, that car was Saturn. It was dent resistant, fun to drive, very easy on gas (oh lord how I miss that) and was unique. When it came time for me to...

Re: Strut Bar

We have a winner. The Ion has a trailing beam rear suspension with shock absorbers. There are no struts. There are swaybars you can bolt on, but that's it.

Re: Firdanza Lightweight Flywheel next upgrade...

I don't mean to sound rude, but there really is nothing else to replace. You have the flywheel, the clutch, and the throwout bearing. Some fluid too, but that doesn't count. In order to do any...

Re: Questions on progress rear sway bar

It felt pretty good, in my opinion. Since you have the Redline, have you looked for any of the BWoody stuff? I'm not sure of the Ion aftermarket scene anymore, but I seem to remember there was a...

Re: Questions on progress rear sway bar

It won't affect your driving quality as far as bumps go. Shocks and springs would change that, not the swaybars. You can use the Progress rear swaybar and the FE3 front swaybar from the Redline and...

Re: Firdanza Lightweight Flywheel next upgrade...

Who dare disturb my slumber?

Just kidding. I had a 2003 Saturn Ion 1 and installed the Fidanza flywheel and the Spec stage 1 clutch at the same time. The clutch was broken in properly, but slipped...

The current catback kits available for the Ion are expensive, unfortunately. If you haven't tried already, see if www.ptuning.com has anything for your application.

If you're going to have one...

Re: Throttle body

58mm stock, as for getting a bigger one look at Cobalt stuff if your car is a 2005 or later. If not, Cavalier with 2.2 Ecotec engine will work.

Re: GM engine/tranny swap Is it possible?

From what I've seen so far the engine and transmission combo will not physically fit under the hood of the S-Series. A possible option for you would be replacing your worn stock components with...
