I only use OEM wires from the dealer. They cost $45. Its hard to beat 200k mile wires for $45. Mine were good but the connector on one wire got damaged.

Your shift cables are bad. Or the plastic top of the shifter assembly is bad(not likely though). Your car was probably hard to shift after the clutch job because its easy to get the cables...
