Re: Manual Transmission - No working gears

But I think its more likely that I only inserted the axle (which I had pulled a few months ago) partially into the differential and it broke off at the lock ring. I'm happy that I don't have to...

Re: Manual Transmission - No working gears

At first, I thought the splines in the axle and differential were worn out.

Re: Manual Transmission - No working gears

I think you're right Bern. When I got the differential cover off, I noticed some lose metal that turned out to be the tip of the driver's side axle shaft....

Re: Manual Transmission - No working gears

Back at this today. I did get the shifter mechanism detached from the top of the tranmission, and didn't see any broken parts.

Using a screwdriver, I slid a shift fork to put the car in gear...

Re: Manual Transmission - No working gears

You mean linkage, right? I don't have any cables attaching to my transmission.

I reset the alignment of my shift linkage, but it didn't help. I think my next focus will be the shift selector...

Manual Transmission - No working gears

I'm looking for ideas about my 5-speed transmission. One day, the car is driving fine. The next, it won't move. The gearshift moves smoothly into any gear, but let up on the clutch and the car...

Re: Engine Removal question

Here's a couple of pictures showing how we got the motor back in the car. Its a tight fit and I was happy to have a couple of helpers.

Re: Engine Removal question

The clutch pedal went very soft and wouldn't disengage the clutch. I tried to add more brake fluid but it just bled out through the bell housing.

I saw your question about the 1.5 hours on...

Re: Manual/clutch

Hey Tom sorry I just now saw your question. I might be the wrong guy to answer though, because I'm a stubborn shadetree mechanic and I've got dozens of hours into replacing the clutch on mine. A...

Re: Manual/clutch

I'm having pretty good luck with http://www.rockauto.com/. I bought a clutch kit from them this week for about $465, which I'm installing right now.

Re: Engine Removal question

Your problem is definitely worse than mine! My slave cylinder completely fell apart and little bitty ball bearings were all over the bottom of the bell housing, but thankfully I don't have any...

Re: Engine Removal question

After some distractions, I finally got back to this project yesterday. I was able to get the motor out by angling it so that the passenger side was a little higher than the drivers', and with the...

Engine Removal question

The clutch on my 5 speed is not disengaging, and fluid is pouring out the bottom of the bell housing. I figure its time for a new slave cylinder. My Haynes manual describes two ways to get the...

Re: Parking Brake Freezing

Sorry it took so long to answer this - I've been moving into my new home :)

My memory is kind of fuzzy, but I think I was able to change my cable without removing the exhaust. The exhaust has a...

Re: TPSM question

I think that light should be on. Mine comes on when any tire (excluding spare) goes down to 27 or 28 psi.

A couple of thoughts come to mind:
1) Maybe the lightbulb is out? Does the TPMS...

Re: Battery Died - Question

I vote for this too. Most auto parts places will load test your battery for free.

I had to replace mine a couple of months ago, even though it had failed a load test nearly 3 years ago. Its such...

Re: Can anyone recommend a remanufactured MAF?

Yes I saw that post (along with several others) and am working my way through the checklist. The code hasn't come back in a couple of days so I'm hoping I fixed it, but I would still like to hear...

Can anyone recommend a remanufactured MAF?

I'm considering replacing the Mass Air Flow sensor on my 08. The car is occasionally throwing a P0068 code, even after cleaning the MAF. With over 175,000 miles, I can't be mad at it - but I'm...

Re: TPSM question

I've read that a bad battery can trigger this problem. Consider going to an auto parts place and have them check it.

I bought it from GmPartsShop.com. The total bill, including shipping and handling, was $34.14.

Re: How about gas mileage?

On the highway, doing 65 mph and A/C turned off, I can consistently clear 40mpg.

Some things that help:

I drive pretty conservatively, and coast when possible.
Using a shim kit, I set my...
