Re: Alternator Intermittently charging/Inconsistent Voltage

Suspect the belt tensioner, no matter how the tension of the belt "feels". Even a tension gauge can give a false reading.

How, you say? I had a tensioner go bad such that the bushing for the...

Re: 2001 SL2 stalling shortly after start

Does it still smell like gasoline inside the cabin? Do you have confidence in that fuel pressure gauge, is it one you have used before? Do you have a source of compressed air to use to do a rough...

Re: Idle air control solenoid- part#

Before you throw a TPS (or anything else) at it, tell us the symptoms. Also, I would invest in an ELM327-type link to view live-data before changing the TPS. Live-data can check a TPS pretty well...

Re: HELP No Spark or Ignition Pulse 1999 Sl2

Put one meter probe on ground, then read voltages at each of the injector wires (can be one-at-a-time). One injector wire should have 12V to ground with KOEO and stay at 12V when the engine cranks. ...

Re: 2001 SL2 stalling shortly after start

If the fuel pressure is 6 psi, ignore the EGR. Low FP, coupled with a gas smell, indicates you have a leak somewhere. Get under the car and inspect the fuel lines everywhere.

Re: Idle air control solenoid- part#

Have you inspected/cleaned the throttle body and throttle blade? Also, a small vacuum leak could bump up the idle rpm. Note that the PCV valve can be considered a "vacuum leak", it must operate...

Re: HELP No Spark or Ignition Pulse 1999 Sl2

"So voltage readings for the ckp Wires to the pcm are purple wire 1.2V key on and Jumps to 1.4-1.5 at crank. Resistance is 702 ohms. Not sure what the right numbers are for oem spec so hopefully you...

Re: HELP No Spark or Ignition Pulse 1999 Sl2

OK, do I understand correctly: the fuel pump runs for a couple of seconds at key-on, then stops running, then comes back on when cranking commences? If the pump comes back on, then the CKP circuit...

Re: 2001 SL2 stalling shortly after start

Condensation. If you are buying fuel from a commercial vendor, significant water in it is extremely unlikely.

Re: HELP No Spark or Ignition Pulse 1999 Sl2

Checking for wet plugs is not reliable for this purpose. Plugs can get wet without the CKP circuit working. The OP has already used a probe light; that or a meter or 'noid light is adequate to show...

Re: Idle air control solenoid- part#

I suggest Standard Motor Products (SMP) #AC61. Next choice? Their AC61T, a slightly lesser grade of the same thing. Rockauto and many others sell SMP.

Re: 2001 SL2 stalling shortly after start

Check fuel pressure with a gauge. Check ECT in live-data or with a meter. Next? Probably block off the EGR port. Still no joy? Remove the O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold and see if it will keep...

Re: HELP No Spark or Ignition Pulse 1999 Sl2

I think the CKP wires are 13F and 14F at the PCM; not certain though.

Re: HELP No Spark or Ignition Pulse 1999 Sl2

Check if the fuel pump comes back on when cranking; that would be further confirmation this is a CKP signal problem.

Check if there is an AC signal at the CKP pin of the PCM connector. Check the...

Re: Anybody have experience doing rear brakes on SL2s?

The picture quality is poor, I can scan and try to improve if anybody wants me to; but don't want to bother if I can avoid it.

Re: Surging and very high compression

"With two map sensors outputting questionable voltages around 0.051v..."

Is that true? I thought the original was stuck at 58mV KOEO, but the JY MAP sensor was giving about 14.6 psi at KOEO...

Re: Surging and very high compression

With the vacuum gauge attached, bring the idle up to about 2500 rpm and hold the throttle steady at that position. The vacuum will change and then should stabilize at a new reading (not sure if it...

Re: Anybody have experience doing rear brakes on SL2s?

in the picture you linked-to, a small lever is missing from that pivot between the rear shoe and arm that the cable pulls. There are three pieces on that pivot (not counting washers/clips).

In...

Re: Surging and very high compression

I often tout using live-data, but I don't think it displays events fast enough for catching this problem. You need to connect some kind of analog gauge.

How did you block the EGR ports? Describe...

Re: Flat tire - Lug nut size?

19mm or 3/4", pretty much the same thing. I think 103 is the published spec, but I never go that tight with those; more like 85 for me.

Re: Propane for A/C

Yes, when I get back to it I plan to do exactly as you say. That will reduce the high/low differential and reduce the charge of "deadly" propane in it. I may even charge it once then remove the...
