Re: Can I add jack-tilt detection to the OEM key fob alarm-98 SC2

you'd think, but the kind of people who steal cats don't tend to see that as a concern. generally the demographic is people with a severe drug habit or other issue clouding their judgement, and the...

Re: 96-99 knock sensor wanted

junkyard time! $3 admission at the yards around here (damn inflation, used to be $2) and don't knock sensors fit in your pocket? :P

Re: 03 Vue Flickering Dash - No dome/radio -wont start

maybe obvious but check your battery terminals. often they'll make good enough contact to provide some power but as soon as you try to crank the whole electrical system goes dead.

perhaps that's...

Re: Saturn SL-1 clutch not *fully* dis-engaging

that is very much true, but the air is still lighter than the fluid. with an upward-sloping fluid path, by agitating the fluid the air slowly rises towards the reservoir. i believe this is a design...

Re: A question about trunk torque rods

it's also worthwhile to ensure the trunk swings up freely. if you feel significant resistance when lifting it by hand, some penetrant oil at the hinges, followed by grease after a few lift-close...

Re: Stumbles/jerks on acceleration

solved as it may be, if the issue returns the culprit is most certainly the icm. generally extreme (as in more than usual) sensitivity to plug/wire/coil combinations is caused by a failing icm....

Re: With Saturn...goes most of GM's Green Technology

notwithstanding the spambot... i do find it very ironic that gm killed saturn and the ev1 (tirerack actually lists the ev1 under the saturn brand, a true affirmation that it was in fact not just a...

Re: Looking for 4 Saturn Ion Rims....

i'd suggest junkyard hunting, personally. i find cars with 4 decent to pristine wheels pretty often. it's also worth looking at the piles they make at the ends of rows (at least around here!) because...

Re: Transmission Sound...

i should have addressed this matter in my first message, but that's really not the right approach. welding the pin to the diff carrier seriously impedes access for future service and can cause...

Re: Transmission Sound...

they don't just blow immediately. on two of the transmissions i preemptively replaced the roll pin on, the original came out in 2-3 pieces even though the transmission worked fine and i'd even been...

Re: Transmission Sound...

i second that notion, the internals of a manual transmission may seem intimidating to work with but in reality the disassembly and reassembly are trivial. just keep a clean work environment (no...

Re: bed in procedure...

an addendum - that is a bunch of bs. the only goal with bedding in, or re-bedding, rotors is to achieve a perfectly smooth contact surface with minimal to no runout. the pad material is eroded away,...

Re: bed in procedure...

my bed-in (and re-bed, for lateral runout issues) procedure: get going nice and fast (60+mph) and step on the brakes with firm, even pressure for an aggressive but smooth stop. focus on holding your...

Re: Raybestos front brake hose Manufacturing defect

that sure is the problem in every industry, instead of making good parts here everything is outsourced to an openly hostile country we actively encouraged to monopolise those industries out of...

Re: S series junkyard autopsies/who says small cars are unsafe?

sadly, i'd bet that's why they junked it. i never cease to lament the number of good, viable saturns i see at the jy, which i can't see any problem with.... consumer culture has people sending good...

Re: Can I add jack-tilt detection to the OEM key fob alarm-98 SC2

short answer: yes, of course you can!

long answer: how good are you with electronics? with an arduino-compatible microcontroller and an accelerometer module it'd be quite achievable on a very...

Re: How is this subframe rust

personally i would call that pretty severe and i'd suggest keeping an eye out for a clean subframe at a junkyard while we can still find them. it's cheap enough to buy one and a relatively trivial...

Re: Saturn SL-1 clutch not *fully* dis-engaging

maybe a bit of a brute-force attack to bleed the hydraulics but i have found that rapidly depressing (fully!) and releasing the clutch pedal for a minute or two can really sort out some of these...

Re: Where to find 1991 SL2 body parts for body shop

oh no, just reuse the ones holding on the broken panel. spray them with penetrant oil before removal in case of rust. if there are any fasteners the replacement panel doesn't have a spot for, just...

Re: Where to find 1991 SL2 body parts for body shop

it will fit, most likely the change was a reduction in the number of fasteners holding it on. i've observed that 1991 cars have the most fasteners holding things like body panels and the cam cover...

Re: All to common coolant leak at the intake manifold

dorman's quality control is legendary for being awful. i think they only get away with it because they are the only ones making many of the parts they sell. i've had issues with malformed threads on...

Re: Engine swap 02 SC2 - non air pump head?

true, although the design of the plastic manifold supposedly does flow better. if you're interested in making more power (upgrading the intake tube and exhaust, for example)...

Re: E-15... what's the plan?

i run e15 in my cars when i can get it cheaper, it's one point higher octane (86) than the cheap gas (85) around here but it sure does burn off quicker. i usually see 2-5 lower mpg so it may be a...
