Re: No compression Cylinder 2 - Options?

I can catch a nail on the lifter on the right side in the above pic, I think that one is completely toast. I could steal some lifters from the spare 95 head that I have for this one.

As far as not...

Re: No compression Cylinder 2 - Options?

I can catch a fingernail on the top of the cylinder. The head is worse than I thought, the lifers are worn through the hardening and have circles.

At this point I can choose to use the head, or...

Re: No compression Cylinder 2 - Options?

Head is off. Head gasket looks good to me, but there was a bunch of crud in the coolant that looked gray, it didn't look like oil/milkshake, just that it hasn't been changed for a long time. The...

Re: Removed passenger seatbelt to remove rear trim....

The assembly is indeed part of #6 in the lower left of the illustration, but is not part of the detail of the illustration.

The first question is, what part caused the wear mark on the plastic?...

Re: Removed passenger seatbelt to remove rear trim....

The passenger seatbelt in your 01 resembles the drawing in the lower left of the pic that fetchitfido posted, correct? I don't see any springs in this drawing, and my memory of my 01 SC2 is somewhat...

Re: Bad Brake Rotor Challenge

This is from 2003, it's my 94 SL2 from before I did my own maintenance. You win though, I've never seen anything that bad.

Re: Busted bolts on fuel filter bracket for SL1

Drilling isn't a big deal in that spot, you aren't using heat, but getting a stuck bolt next to the fuel line loose with an acetylene torch would be a real hazard.
The vehicles south of the rust...

Re: No compression Cylinder 2 - Options?

Somebody has been working on this car before, and they didn't use anti-seize or threadlock on the bolts, which has slowed me down and cause all kinds of problems. Even worse, they substituted a bolt...

Re: Cracked head?

It is new head time.

And be careful to get the moveable guide bolted into the right hole, there are lots of bolt holes - and on the rebuild of my 98 Wagon I bolted int into the wrong place and I...

Re: No compression Cylinder 2 - Options?

Yep. I have one rebuild in progress (the 95), and I'm trying not to get too deep down the slippery slope of this one in terms of time and money, I just need to get something back on the road, which...

Re: No compression Cylinder 2 - Options?

I see, like Hylomar.

I dug out the 95 head today and took a look at it. Some pretty thick deposits on the exhaust valves, doing some research on this and it looks like it's from one of three...

My last Duralast Gold lasted 7 years before it started acting cranky.

Re: No compression Cylinder 2 - Options?

If this is the red stuff that looks like Karo syrup with red food coloring in it then I've used it in the rebuild for the 98. Either way it looks like Autozone has it and I'll get a fresh tube.

Re: No compression Cylinder 2 - Options?

Now that I'm reading up on this again, it's a little bigger process than what I remember. I may as well do the timing set and oil pump while I'm in there.

Getting the timing cover off can be quite...

Re: The 98 SW2 is Totaled

I already have a wall full of parts in the downstairs of the house. The 95 SC2 is not yet back together, and there are parts in the downstairs, parts in my bedroom, and the storeroom, in addition to...

Re: The 98 SW2 is Totaled

I'm planning on doing a buyback from the insco. It's not worth it to me to let them have the car, not only to save the engine and trans, but also the subframe that's been POR-15'd, dogbones with...

No compression Cylinder 2 - Options?

My 98 SW2 was totaled last weekend. I picked up a 97 SC2 with 179K mils as a winter beater. The engine was said to have used little oil, about a quart in 3K miles, I'm not sure I believe that, but...

The 98 SW2 is Totaled

A week a go I was waiting to make a left turn and I get smashed into. The 98 SW2 that I rebuilt the engine in is totaled, the frame is bent, the passenger rear window is shattered, and the trunk area...

Re: Killed my engine?

Then the next thing to check would be for what fetchitfido mentions above. Clogged catalytic converter or clogged fuel filter. The cat can be checked by pulling the O2 sensor on the exhaust header...

Re: Killed my engine?

First, check the oil using the dipstick with the little yellow handle on the front of the engine. Pull it out, wipe it off, stick it back in and then pull it out again to read the level of oil. Oil...

Re: Can't get sunroof open. 2002 SC2

If the motor stops shortly after being turned on then either the motor was bad or it was mis-timed. If you can test the motor when it is out and it runs for the time it should take to open it, then...

Re: Can't get sunroof open. 2002 SC2

That's right, at least for the 3rd gen. If those torx are stuck like they were on mine, a mini-torch will get them loose, but I see you had no problems.

Link for timing instructions is malformed....

Re: Can't get sunroof open. 2002 SC2

It's been a while since I've worked on a sunroof, but I believe if you remove the motor the roof should slide back and forth. Shouldn't hurt to try.

It may be that the motor is mis-timed, or a bad...
