Re: 2000 SL2 - MPG and power dropped. A lot.

Did you do a compression test? What were the results?

Quick question about gas tank removal

Of course I just filled the tank and now need to remove it. What's the best/easiest way to get the gas out without dumping it all over the ground?

Re: Led tail/stop/turn

Just a thought on safety and tail lights. If you live in a snowy climate, LED's don't produce much heat. If you get snow on your tail lights, it might not melt while you are driving, so your lights...

Re: don't waste your money on moog ball joints

The cleanup of the outside of the casting has what to do with the long term use of the part? I'm more interested in the quality of the metallurgy used to make the parts. Long life and breakage are...

Re: Engine rocking excessively between on and off throttle while moving in gear

Perhaps a spring(s) has failed in the clutch? Not sure if there is a way to confirm without removing the clutch....

Re: ? Value '01 SW2 w/Cracked Intake Manifold ?

Should be an easy fix with the repair kit for the manifold. It's probably worth more to you than anyone else. Condition is everything at that mileage.

Re: Test drove a 99 SC2!

It's hard to go wrong with that deal, assuming it isn't rusty. The auto takes a lot of heat for having issues but really, they aren't that bad. Luke put over a million KM on his Auto SL2 with the...

Re: The oil burning issue, the truth?

Say you got caught, it's easy to rationalize. It was borderline as a 5W30 so we down graded it to 10W30 just to be safe. We wouldn't want to mislead the customer. Makes you sound honest, doesn't...

Re: The oil burning issue, the truth?

An interesting point for anyone trying to avoid buying 5W30 in favour of 10W30 is that the 10W30 spec allows some overlap that a 5W30 oil would qualify. A oil manufacturer can make one oil and put...

Re: The oil burning issue, the truth?

My 2 cents (no refunds)

No doubt there is more than one factor involved, for instance the spec for 5W30 has changed several times over the years so one or more of the variations may have...

Re: Auto Transmission issue

The fuse replacement seems to have done the trick. I didn't find any electrical issue. The harness just lays on top of the transmission so I used a zip tie to lift it up some so the wires don't rub...

Re: 1998 SL2 Sedan - Rotted Subframe Danger?

If the subframe is rotted out there you need to carefully check the other points. The transmission mount, control arms, sway bar, are all important things that need to stay attached. If you feel...

It was a 10 amp fuse (red) which I think is correct.

Re: Auto Transmission issue

Further check of the electrical system showed a blown fuse in the Engine Room fuse box. Probably should have started there. Battery voltage tests OK. Didn't have any check engine lights.

What's...

Re: Auto Transmission issue

So, I finally had a chance to pull things apart and get some testing done. Removing the transmission coupler and checking there, shows that all solenoids check good, 5.1 to 5.3V as shown in the...

Re: Extra-long Oil Filters

Any idea what that time difference would be?

The filter shouldn't empty due to the anti drain back valve so it's just a matter of the pressure building at startup. I'm thinking the difference is...

Re: Extra-long Oil Filters

Yes, they are the same. The only difference is the length, which adds volume and more filter area. No reasonable down side that I've been able to find.

The Saturn makes a great spare car. Excellent fuel economy and keeping some miles off the new car are features of keeping it. If you're putting 20k miles on a year, you'll be racking up the miles...

Generally cars with performance, luxury or interesting history or engineering become very valuable. I think that Saturns don't fit well into any of those categories. Maybe a bit of history or...

Re: Power Loss Shifting / Rlling When In a gear

Yes, use your hand brake. Don't put it on a little bit either or you might drive away with it still on.
