Re: 185000 miles

Probably not. I felt better changing mine due the rebuild. I'll change it again in 2036 or so.

Re: Potential project car

It's a manual - bump start it! Dead starters are a common S series issue.

Re: Spaceman's BYOB-DOHC Rebuild Partythread

Does it matter? As long as you keep the rod and cap together I would think not. I didn't keep track of mine.

Re: 185000 miles

I replaced mine at 204,067. It was easy except both bolts snapped off. My kid drilled and tapped new holes.

Re: Potential project car

I'd vote yes. Would be a great learning experience. Get it running, fix the little things, and decide if you have the budget and appetite for a proper rebuild. If you do you could have the car for...

Re: Saturn Craigslist Deal of the Day!

As much as I appreciate the AC when it's hot, there is something to be said for simplicity! Parts not there never break.

Re: Saturn Craigslist Deal of the Day!

Also not a super deal, but a manual transmission single cam with low low miles!

Why is that? Does it lower MPG or something?

What fuel mileage did you record for each plug type?

Re: What is this? How about that? (Pictures)

That is where it went - it is a gearbox vent. Maybe the hose rotted and broke. I'll see if I have any pictures.

Saturninin, did you see the PM I sent? May be interested in the parts if Jonasan308 is not.

Re: Replacing thermostat is there a housing gasket?

I would go for any new one that fits. I would not reuse the old one.

My sincere condolences. I shared your pictures with my son who drives our Saturn now. I mentioned how much of a bummer it would be if the Saturn was wrecked after all that time and money we spent...

Re: Best Muffler that lasts the longest 2000 SL2

I must be lucky - same exhaust since it rolled off the line in '99.

Re: 96 SC2 bringing it back to life (slowly)

Nicely done! Those engine guts look different than my '99. Did you mean cam caps?

Re: 96 SC2 bringing it back to life (slowly)

Bummer. Is that part steel? Maybe you can drill a couple small holes in the back, drive it out, and seal the holes with RTV. I'd be worried about the welding. That part needs to be pretty flat for...

Re: Tranny project

When we put our case halves together it was like a dream. You should not need to force it. There are the two snap rings that have to be set in sequence.

Play with the shift tower a bit. There is...

Re: Not sure what this is called on the front end suspension, help.

You absolutely could analyze the stiffness of the two bars and see if they are matched. I'm an engineer, and academically I could do it. But consider this - I've had both, both handle just fine, and...
