Sad Re: “Coated” Wheel Weights

Yes, these very sort of bead leaks have happened to me too and for the same reason.
So I second your experience.

The plastic weights I referred to are not in themselves magnetic by the way....

Re: “Coated” Wheel Weights

OK, you win. :xeye:

BTW, the plastic weights I mentioned are very, very flexible and are magnetic, so they obviously have iron particles in them.
Still, it isn't a bad idea really.

Happy Re: “Coated” Wheel Weights

Actually, I have discovered that plastic weights are made by 3M, IMI, BADA and Wurth among others and for OEM applications cut-to-weight seems to be a growing practice.

Oh, and the trend toward...

Dazed Re: “Coated” Wheel Weights

FWIW-
I stopped using clip on weights on aluminum wheels many years ago.
Their steel clips, as mentioned by several people, cut into the aluminum of the wheels though any clear coat or anodizing....

Wrench Re: Adding a Front License Plate Mount

Or you could do what I did (see photos).
I had the same issue as the OP (no front plate or bracket when I bought my SC2 which is just begging to be stopped by the police in this state).
So I...

Wrench Re: Should i paint my brakes?

I recently painted the calipers on a newer car that were already showing signs of surface corrosion.
I wire brushed them clean and then brush-painted them sort of a brick red.
They look nice and...

Happy Re: Exploded donut spare wiki

Yes, of course you are right.
I did once have a tire sidewall let go on a trailer parked outdoors though and it sounded like a shotgun blast.

Anyone want to volunteer their car for a scuba tank...

Happy Re: Tasteful Aftermarket Wheels

I liked the stock mags on my 97 SC2 (same as the#6 on evilplastic too).
I never had any problems with them other than having to shim the hubs to compensate for wear (a long, long story).

But I...

Wrench Re: Exploded donut spare wiki

This happened to my SC2 a while back too and it was a Firestone.
The car did have the heat shield installed and was always garaged (even at work) day and night, so the weather probably wasn't much...

Re: So long and thanks for all the fish........

The GN400's were/are nice bikes.
I have a friend who has a similar vintage one, a 400E (twin), I think.

No, it already thinks it is a Saturn..... :D

Roll Eyes Re: A Dodge Ram Rear-Ended Red Hot.

My very first car was a Dodge with a two speed slush box.
It had a nasty habit of randomly expelling the poppet spools from the valve body when shifting it from "park" to some other gear.

Thanks, I am deeply touched by all of the kind sentiments.
I will likely not be going away completely, I will just be tapering off slowly.

Happy Re: Headlight Sanding/Acetone Trick

I use acetone vapor polishing on 3D printed ABS parts all the time.
It can make them positively glossy and even wet-looking.
But to be perfectly honest I had not thought of doing it to headlights....

Wrench Re: A Dodge Ram Rear-Ended Red Hot.

The back end of my SC2 was "pre-damaged for my convenience" when I bought it.
The trunk latch was very stiff and the paint on the bumper cover was cracked and partially missing in spots.
I quickly...

Happy Re: So long and thanks for all the fish........

Yes, exactly.
Not only does the starter turn faster but the fuel and ignition systems have a stiffer (lower impedance, less sag) source to draw current from.
I can't wait to add one to the Camaro...

Happy Re: So long and thanks for all the fish........

Yes, instead of being limited by the internal impedance (and sluggish chemistry in colder weather) of the battery, the capacitor response is more or less instantaneous and does not sag appreciably...

Wrench Re: 2nd Gen Interior Center Console Handle 3D Print Model

3D printers are great.
I use mine all the time and have printed many parts for cars.
Mostly I use ABS because of the temperatures, but you do have to paint it because it does not hold up well in...
