Re: Intermittent No Start 2004 Ion

HOPE for the best? The sensor is a crappy design that has not been improved. Why put a "defective" switch back in?

Without tapping into the comm link and monitoring it you have no idea if there...

Re: Ion doesn't like starting...

So, it's an Ion and it's insured. If people want to steal it they will find ways.

Re: Ion doesn't like starting...

It's not about disabling the "switch". There's nothing wrong with the ignition switch itself. The problem is the passlock sensor on the switch. The BCM compares the voltage across it as the...

Re: Ion doesn't like starting...

I'd ask this at my dealership but they haven't been very receptive to technical inquiries in the past.
Have you ever investigated disabling Passlock in the BCM? I've read some chatter in forums...

Re: Auto dimming mirror.... help.

Funny thing is most up-level trim SUVs come with really dark tint in the rear and they still include the inside auto-dim mirror. I never could figure out the point. On outside mirrors it makes...

Re: Auto dimming mirror.... help.

Putting the car in reverse disables it. You could trick it into thinking its constantly in reverse by tying the light green lead to 12V accessory. See my old post....

Re: EPS(electric power steering)

The EPS he would hook up would be a dummy. A VW Beetle chassis does not need power steering.

Re: How Risky Is Your Saturn?

The title should be how risky is your Saturn to State Farm. No wonder I don't insure with them.

Re: Is GM done with Saturn?

Its unfortunate that so many buy into the point of final assembly as a primary indicator of domestic content. A thousand dollars or so of final assembly labor doesn't quite make for "supporting the...

Re: Would having a real-time fuel mileage display change your driving habits?

Which is why a bristle when I hear all these fuel saving driving tips encouraging prople to creep away from stoplights. All you do is spend more time and distance under low mpg conditions. And the...

Checkered Flag Re: Stage II Upgrade Kit Question

I'd be surprised if they didn't put some sticker under the hood like they did for mine on the recalls. Also I would think EPA would require an altered emmisions label since it's changed from the...

Re: Intercooled?

Yes, it's a liquid intercooler (more efficient than air-to-air) with half of the system inside the intake manifold. The tiny coolant reservoir in front is for the intercooler. An electric pump...

Re: Mildew inside door.

Do you have any acoustic damping products (i.e. from aftermarket speaker install) inside the door? They are can be a huge moisture trap.

Re: Saturn Ion: What could have been

The best info I can find on the web is that it's a change from 3.84:1 to 3.74:1. That's only a 2.6% difference. That'll barely get you a 50 rpm drop on the freeway and isn't enough to be worth the...

Re: Installing factory XM in non XM Ion?

The dealer doesn't want to waste his time because once you hear the price you won't even think about it. I'd look for a junkyard that lets you pull your own parts. They'll probably sell it cheap too...

Re: Shifter knob fell off... yes, for the third time!

I'm curious what the TSB repair is exactly. Mine finally came after 7000 miles but I decided to fix it myself rather than risk them doing a half-arsed repair. Not to mention the $50 deductible and...

Re: In The Market

Wow, that's a long time to want a car without buying it. Congrats. My 2 cents on the center IP is that it's way superior at night. I find it easier to see the road without the glare of the dash...

Re: ION 3 2.4 gets water in the trunk

There is a vent in the passenger side fender that can let in water. It's got a rubber flap but it doesn't really seal well. Spraying under the fender when washing can let in quite a bit.

Re: Why hasnt Saturn

Actually the VWs sold pretty well. Rabbits and Rampages both bring good money on ebay for nice condition even though you couldn't give away a hatchback. The diesel models are especially valuable. ...

Re: Disappointed

I'm disappointed in the entire industry. We have more models than ever and they're all just slight variations on a theme. Very few stand out. Even the retro and oddball stuff ultimately manages to...

Re: 2003 ION 3...got an oil change, now my engine is shot

That about tells it all. I'd have an independent shop (prefereably a Saturn dealer) remove the filter and cap and provide a written report of the findings. Pay them for this service and make it...

Re: Guess I'm not shifting....

There's this thing on the instrument panel called a tachometer. It's OK if it goes past the 9:00 position. You can make that happen by pushing down further on the pedal under your right foot....

Re: Sway bar end links..get a load of this..

You seem to be ragging on GM here when it's the dealer that sets the price on parts and labor. Sounds like plain old dealer gouging to me. According to saturnparts.com, the links are $58 each their...
