Re: What year did the IONs switch to steel fenders

None.

You're thinking of the L-Series which had steel rear quarter panels (and polymer door skins & front fenders). The vertical body panels on all S-Series, Ion, and 2002-2007 Vue models are all...

Re: Ion Window Won't Go Up

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. The problem may not be in the rear doors at all. I'd start by checking for power/ground at the rear switches since those are relatively easy to remove. If you get...

Re: Light issues, probably electrical

Check the front DRL/turn signal bulb socket. It's probably burned/melted and not making a good connection with the bulb. The socket (Saturn p/n 22691095) may need to be replaced if you are unable to...

Re: Catalitic Converter below threshold efficiency ? ? ? ? ? ?

If those oxygen sensors are still the factory-installed parts, replace them. At 242K miles they are way past their expected service life.

If you still get the code after replacing both oxygen...

Re: reset computer? Oil change warning

GM uses an application-specific algorithm to adjust the oil change interval based engine characteristics, driving habits and the climate in which the vehicle is operated. Mileage and engine runtime...

Re: Anyone know how to program a 2006 Ion Key Fob

All Ions use Passlock and plain keys without any chips or RFID transponders. Posting the PASS-Key key programming procedure was unnecessary, but you are correct in that PASS-Key equipped vehicles are...

Re: A/C function

I misinterpreted what you said as you not selecting the defrost-only mode which meant that you could've been using defog mode. That's why I mentioned it. My car engages A/C right at the 12 O'clock...

Re: 2007 Saturn Ion2 Sedan 2.2L Throttle Body

I have listed the OEM throttle body part numbers and their applications below. They are not interchangeable.

12568756 - 2005-2006 all 2.2L
12633774 - 2007 all 2.2L
12580195 - 2006-2007 2.4L...

Re: A/C function

In the Ion the A/C compressor is also engaged when defog mode is selected. "Defog" is the term the owners manual uses to refer to the defrost/floor combo mode. Just to clarify, the compressor isn't...

Re: Power Window master switches NOT lit up!

I attempted to salvage/repair my switch before replacing it. I can confirm the PCB inside of the switch (at least the two window switch for the quad coupe) does not have an LED on it.

Re: Power Window master switches NOT lit up!

None of the switches on any of the doors are illuminated, and neither is the dimmer switch itself.

I wondered the same thing when I replaced my master power window switch last year. The old...

Re: Transmission ID

AFAIK they are all pretty much the same. The shift tower was revised during production of 2003 models, but that's the only thing I can think of that would make it incompatible with other models. Even...

Re: Transmission ID

L61 is the RPO code for the Ecotec 2.2L engine.
M86 is the RPO code for the Getrag F23 transmission (5-speed manual).

For the most part the F23 transmissions are all interchangeable with some...

Re: Power Mirrors - not working

The power mirrors receive power from the BCM. Check all BCM-related fuses and look for broken wires in the driver's door jamb.

Re: Rear awd brake backing plate

Yes, FWD and AWD models do use the same backing plate. They also use the same wheel bearings so there is no reason for them to be different.

The backing plates are completely gone (rusted off) on...

Re: Auto fluid level?

Yes, I think so. Regardless, you should definitely check the dipstick before and after. It's easy to access if you remove the front transmission mount. Removing the mount is fairly easy and doesn't...

Re: Are there any known issues relating to the exhaust manifold?

No, this problem is pretty rare in the Ion. The Vue with the same engine does have this problem, but the exhaust manifold they have is different than the one used in the Ion.

Re: What PAG Oil do Ion's compresser use?

If you already have the oil, then I might do it. Otherwise, it's probably not necessary.

Re: What PAG Oil do Ion's compresser use?

The system only needs 5 ounces of PAG 46 according to the service manual. How much you need to add depends on how much was lost when the compressor was removed. If none was lost then you shouldn't...

Re: 05 Ion 1, manual trans issues

No, oil pressure will not affect transmission operation. There are no electronic devices that would affect transmission operation.

I suspect bad clutch hydraulics or low transmission fluid level....

Re: Several question in this thread. Who knows the answers?

1) Use Toyota T-IV fluid and nothing else

2) The car came with Dexcool, but any universal long-life coolant will work fine.

3) This is likely a BTSI issue as previously suggested.

4) I...

Re: Third brake light bulb

As I posted earlier, you can buy all six PC175 bulbs from Rockauto for $12 shipped. You'd be crazy to pay $5/bulb for them elsewhere.
