Re: Turbo Saturn build

The more rotating mass you have the easier take off will be, but it'll be slower to rev up. The weight trade off on the crankshaft is worth it because it's better balanced, a lighter flywheel should...

Re: Fuel Filter Installation

I think its possible yes, but its easier to pull them with the rail. The clips that hold the injectors to the rail can be quite the PITA to work with.

Cleaning:
Use the spare washer pump...

Re: 2000 Saturn SL1

I'd check the cig lighter fuse first for the OBD-II reader thing, then wiggle/jiggle the heck out of the key in run to see if the gauges respond. I'm suspecting a bad ignition switch based on the...

Re: Fuel Filter Installation

The tool that makes those crimps is $300 and also comes with the dies to make double and bubble flares on brake lines (closer to $500 for one with the full die kit that includes larger hydraulic line...

Re: Turbo Saturn build

I'm not sure which is the overall stronger crankshaft, but the heavier one is better balanced (smoother running) and can "pointlessly" rev higher.
"Pointlessly" because there's a steep power...

Re: New 95 SW2

Okay, it's been long enough. Time for the jerk buzz-kill.

Challenge for you: Open the hatch. Easy right?
2 rules: the ignition key doesn't leave your pocket and nobody can utilize any other...

Re: Fighting p0401 EGR code!!!

Verify the MAP sensor is reading 1-1.5v at idle.

Not much for diagnostic aids on this one, basically just clean/replace the EGR valve and clean the EGR passages. Also pull the MAP sensor and...

Re: Manual Trans Swap

The fun part of transmission swaps is living in the rust belt so it's safer/easier/faster to pull the engine & transmission together out the top than drop the cradle enough to sneak the transmission...

Re: Fuel Filter Installation

These quick-connects aren't the stupid ones that require a stupid round tool that slips over the line that you then smash your fingers trying to compress into the quick-connect....these are the good...

Re: Non-Working Cruise Control on Later Generation S-series

I believe OldNuc and DIYGuy have write-ups on various ways to hack the 1st gen CC into later gens.

Wow, actually had to fire up Techline ESI to get an accurate diagram as my AllDataDIY show the...

Re: Rear Sway bar link Question

The nuts that were sent with the part pictured are not the ones pictured with the part so there is a fair chance the thread pitch is also wrong hence the shaft twisting. Normal nuts are easy enough...

Re: Top windshield mounted third brake light plastic

The red plastic bit is part of the lamp housing, it's not a separate piece.

Same part (GM 21110665) '96-'02 SL/SL1/SL2 but it's NLA new so a junkyard is likely your only option (didn't see any on...

Re: New AMR Aluminum Radiator - Not Direct Fit (Giving Away for Free)

They just sent you the wrong one, it looks nothing like their S-Series radiator.

Re: Radio connector pinout, 1993 SL1

If it's on any of the S-Series radios, it's only the 1.5 or 2 DIN units. It's likely printed on one of the 100's of other '87-'02 GM Family vehicles that use the same connector.
Only "gotcha" part...

Re: new SC2 owner with p0037

heater element should read 12-27ohms. Pin C - Blk/white and Pin D - Pink on the car side connector. Pin "D" should have alternator voltage on it after...

Re: '99 Coolant over flow tank vent line help ? ?

If CEL is on, any OBD-II code reader can read the codes.
If the Service (Wrench) light is on it requires a more advanced code reader, usually of the Tech-2 variety. Generally the Service light is...

Re: '99 Coolant over flow tank vent line help ? ?

The coolant temp light flash's for low coolant, on steady for over-temp. Either add more coolant or replace the tank (the sensor is baked into the tank) if it's flashing.

As it's a '96+ you should...

Re: Running additional wires through the clock spring

Seems safer to find something in the junkyard from Caddy or 'Vette with a stupid amount of steering wheel mounted controls and take that clockspring.

Run the power through 2-3 circuits if you...

Re: L-series brakes on s-series

Looking at O'Rilley's and eBay pictures of both calipers with brackets it's not going to work without some creativity with a welder and drill. The brackets are very very different so the calipers...

Re: Brake line bubble flare tool

Most modern GM vehicles (after the late 80's) and nearly all other vehicles use bubble flared brake lines. More modern vehicles, even GM, use metric brake line (had to work on a Caddy that required...

Re: Brake line bubble flare tool

While not 100% correct...simply don't finish the double flare. Use the double flare die, but don't do the 2nd step with the cone that folds it into the double flare.

The $35 "U" shaped tools are...

Re: Rough idle

TB's change around 1995. I never tried swapping TPS's, but if you put the "wrong" TB on the vacuum harness on top also gets changed. I'm sure there's a good reason for it, the change with the vacuum...

Re: An Effort to Increase Fuel Economy and Warm Up Time

Some people have installed a POT in place of the IAT so they could choose a temp for the PCM to read on the fly. Just need one that has resistances within the allowable range by the PCM and don't...

Re: Dual intake cam

If you want lower RPM's, swap 5th gear from the MP2 over. I always swapped the whole transmission but it's supposed to be a bolt-on direct swap. Pop the end cover off, pull both gears, swap gears as...
