Happy Re: Where You At?

Umm, because they are Saturn S-Series, and the only people that truly appreciate the true value of these cars are the ones that already own them, and don't mind dumping oil into them every week. :D

"I lost my khakis." - translations:

In America, "I can't find my pants."

In Boston, MA, "I can't start my car." :D

Oh, and I am Joshua. Hailing from Leavittsburg, OH, or about right between...

Re: Saturn Help in Chicago?

The immediate slam into reverse is a symptom of a worn pressure regulator valve bore or sticking pressure regulator valve. Reverse requires the highest line pressure to engage. When the fluid is cold...

Re: Automatic Trans Issue

Your replacement valve body is defective and your original valve body has a sticking pressure regulator valve or internal leakage and a worn out valve bore.

You can PM Special Forces, as he does...

Re: Sohc to Dohc swap done with issues

https://www.motor.com/magazine-summary/lean-codes-january-2018/

Here is an excellent tech article, that is very detailed, and covers the multiple causes of a lean condition.

And, yes, the O2...

Re: Model in question.

No. 1991-1996 Saturn Coupes ONLY came with pop-up headlamps on the SC(1991-1992 only), and the SC2(1993-1996).

The SC1 trim level was NOT available in 1991-1992 model years, and when GM added it...

Re: Saturn Help in Chicago?

What are the symptoms of the transmission? Like JPsuli, I have done two valve bodies, and I just hit 202,000 miles last night.

The input shaft nut has very distinct symptoms, and on OBD-II...

Re: Sohc to Dohc swap done with issues

P0171 exhaust lean, maybe check/replace the O2 sensor. It may be on its way out, and just hasn't set an O2 sensor code yet.

Re: Manual to power steering swap? JY SC2 suspension? Straightforward?

Only the 1991-1992 S-Series are programmed to code the PCM, when the variable assist plug is not detected.

Variable assist pumps will interchange with non-NV7 P/S on the S-Series without issue. ...

Re: 99 SL1 transmission kicking when I get up to and out of the 10-15MPH range. Help?

The 1-2 upshift is usually going to be felt, on the automatic transmissions. The TCC is not engaged, unless you are at WOT. It will be more noticeable when the fluid is cold, because line pressure...

Re: Mpg??????

Buy pretty much any other brand of GM lines, from 1991-2002, and you will see gas gauges that are way worse than the S-Series.

My 1991 Pontiac Grand Am has gone as many as 300 miles from -tank...

Re: Car sat for 6 months....precautions before start?

Adding SeaFoam or any additives to the fuel os a recipe for disaster on the valves, because the fuel burns too hot.

Yes, 10% ethanol can add a little moisture in the tanks now.

I have burnt...

Re: TOE-IN question

Toe-In means the tire is facing inward at the front face of the tire.

To correct the toe on your tire, you will want to turn the outer tie rod shaft clockwise so it threads into the tie-rod end...

Re: Need help, can I drive whatever this thing is that broke?

It shouldn't hurt, though, to use the Quick Steer brand. May just not last as long, or it may last longer.

RockAuto is a reseller, so it is hard to say why they would suddenly go on-sale, yet be...

Re: Need help, can I drive whatever this thing is that broke?

Make sure to get a MAP/Propane torch to heat the studs holding the old on in. They come with a Jamb Nut, from the factory.

Jamb Nuts have a nylon coating on their top, so as you thread it on the...

I can't read the articles on my phone. I will have to go to the library to research them.

Re: Rotella T-6, 5w40 synthetic, less than $10/gallon at AutoZone

Re: Car sat for 6 months....precautions before start?

The cylinder head is going to be bone-dry of oil upon restarting.

Re: I am running out of gasoline

You have a 1995 SC2. The "normal" temperature range is just below the mark. Usually about 2-3 needle widths. The fan will come on at the mark, and this is normal as well. If the gauge stays at...

Re: I am running out of gasoline

BOTH my 1995 SC2 and my 1991 Grand Am have gained about 2-3mpg from switching to EFP(ethanol-free premium). My Grand Am went from 23-25mpg to 27-28mpg.

The SC2 went from 32-33mpg, to an average...

Re: Engine RPM surges when hot.

Your throttle position sensor is failing. A common symptom of a failed/failing TPS will be an idle of about 2,000rpms, and when you turn the key off and back on, it will drop back to 750rpms.

The...

Re: I am running out of gasoline

First off, you CAN run 87 octane in the DOHC. You can enjoy the benefits of burnt exhaust valves, from the spark knock when you are under load, too.

Running 87 in most cases will not hurt the...
